Welcome
The Two Islands Radio Yacht Club was formed in late 1992 by a group of five or six skippers who were mainly interested in sailing and racing the radio controlled 6 metre class. This class has now been superseded by the International One Metre class. This is the most popular class in the UK.
During the club's history we have hosted a number of important events including national championships and regional heats and continue to do so. Indeed we will be hosting the UK IOM National Championships in June 2012. This will attract the very best skippers in the UK and Europe who will compete over three days for the trophy.
We have over 30 members and the club has a strong program of competitive events sailed for on Sunday's (starting at 10.00am) There are a number of competitions split between spring/summer and autumn/winter but with a year long best skipper trophy to go for. We split the fleets into A and B fleet allowing new less experienced members the chance to ‘get on the podium’.
In addition to the regular Sunday programme we also sail on Wednesday mornings (around 10.30am) racing the ‘entry level’ Micro Magic yacht. This is an ideal starter boat at a low cost. For those lucky enough to not be working we race for one and a half hours than adjourn to the pub for a snack and a chat. All good fun.
The club is affiliated to the Model Yachting Association, the national body that develops and controls the sport in the UK.
We have excellent sailing water at Furzton Lake with a variety of race courses available for our use.
If you are interested in the sport of model yacht racing please come along to the lake on a Sunday, make yourself known, and we will be pleased to help in any way possible.
If you have any comment or queries about this website then please contact the club secretary.
